Chairman The most senior post within CHERUB. The post of Chairman/Chairwoman has been held by six people since the organisation was founded in 1946. The job is a highly unusual combination of the roles of a school headmaster and a senior intelligence agency bureaucrat. The current holder of the post, Terrence McAfferty, has held the position since 1993. Cherub Officially, all CHERUB pupils are referred to as CHERUB Agents, even if they are not yet qualified for missions. Unofficially, most people on campus refer to them as cherubs. Handler Every CHERUB agent is assigned to an adult handler. The handlers help to develop the individual curriculum that each pupil on campus follows. They liase with the Mission Controllers, helping to make the decision about what agents are suitable for particular missions. Most importantly, a CHERUB handler takes on the role of a surrogate parent, dealing with the disciplinary and emotional needs of the cherubs. All handlers also have a teaching or coaching role on campus. Misson Contoller Mission controllers are the adults responsible for devising and running CHERUB operations. They always work in the field alongside their agents. Usually, ex-CHERUB agents are recruited as Assistant Mission Controllers when they are in their mid to late twenties, after university and a few years working outside of the organisation.
